I am Sheri Braaksma, one of the founders of SBSC Ventures. I have over 30 years of experience in bookkeeping and credit management, and I hold a CCP Designation (Certified Credit Professional).
Before founding SBSC, I worked in the automotive service industry, with accounting and high-tech firms. When I moved back to Chilliwack over a decade ago, I took a chance and decided to start out on my own. That decision has led to building lasting relationships with amazing entrepreneurs throughout the Fraser Valley.
I’ve been working with numbers since my teens. I actually wanted to be a vet, but a quick faint at the sight of blood convinced me to find a safer path and accounting turned out to be the perfect fit.
If I were to write my obituary, I would list all the amazing people who popped into my life at just the right moment, propelling my career forward. I moved back and forth between industry and private practice until, funny enough, I landed back in my own public practice in the form of a bookkeeping firm.
I am well versed in the one-write system and paper long-form tax returns. I still run through T accounts on the ole legal pad when I am stuck on an entry. Working in a large team for a very diverse, multiple-city corporation in the high-tech sector taught me a lot about people, managing, goals, and how quickly life can change.
I do not believe in an industry niche, but when asked, I say that I niche in amazing entrepreneurs. I love to move along their journey as they grow their business, learn to understand financials, and become confident business owners. I get to be a cheerleader and a sounding board.
I am blessed to be working alongside some pretty amazing entrepreneurs throughout Chilliwack and the Fraser Valley. Nothing feels better than when they outgrow my firm and move on to having their own accounting staff. That is real success, and I celebrate every one of those milestones.
I still pride myself on always answering the phone, taking the time to focus on each client’s needs, and ensuring their information is available to them on a timely basis. Owning my own firm has been a dream come true, both career-wise and lifestyle-wise.

There’s sound financial advice, and then there’s real-life advice. I try to find a balance between the two. Rather than recycling the same strategies for every business, I take the time to understand your goals, your challenges, and how you actually work, so the guidance fits you, not the other way around.
My house is always full of family and, of course, our two little dogs T and Herbie who love to drive us crazy. Everyone knows it is a quarter end when the sound of steaming milk is heard all through the day.
I am passionate about shopping local, supporting small businesses, and giving back to my community through volunteering.
I thoroughly enjoy visiting my clients regularly, celebrating their successes or listening to them vent their frustrations, plus I get to hang out with goats. I found a fulfilling career and my hope for everyone is that they find that job that helps them bounce out of bed in the morning.
You deserve more than just someone who processes transactions. You deserve a partner who understands your challenges, celebrates your wins, and helps you navigate the tough decisions.
