How SBSC Ventures Helps Fraser Valley Business Owners Focus on What They Do Best
I started working with numbers way back in my teens. I cannot say that it was a career I chose given I wanted to be a vet. Alas, I faint at the sight of blood, so I had to make some hard choices, and accounting it was.
If I were to write my obituary, I would list all the amazing people who popped into my life at just the right moment, propelling my career forward. I moved back and forth between industry and private practice until, funny enough, I landed back in my own public practice in the form of a bookkeeping firm.
When I moved back to Chilliwack over a decade ago, I took a chance and decided to start out on my own. That decision has led to building lasting relationships with amazing entrepreneurs throughout the Fraser Valley. SBSC Ventures has grown from a simple idea, help business owners focus on what they do best, into a trusted partner for hundreds of businesses.
Today, I want to share why we do what we do and how our approach helps Fraser Valley business owners like you succeed.
Bookkeeping Is the Profession. Supporting Small Business Is the Why.
People often ask what makes SBSC Ventures different from other bookkeeping firms. The answer is simple: we are not just about the numbers.
I do not believe in an industry niche, but when asked, I say that I niche in amazing entrepreneurs. I love to move along their journey as they grow their business, learn to understand financials, and become confident business owners. I get to be a cheerleader and a sounding board.
This philosophy shapes everything we do. Yes, we process transactions, reconcile accounts, file GST returns, and prepare financial statements. But those are just the tools we use to support something bigger: helping you build the business of your dreams without drowning in financial stress.
The Problem Most Small Business Owners Face
You started your business because you are good at something. Maybe you are an excellent contractor who builds beautiful homes. Maybe you are a talented retailer with an eye for products customers love. Maybe you are a skilled tradesperson who takes pride in quality work.
You did not start your business to spend evenings sorting receipts, weekends catching up on bookkeeping, or lunch hours running to the bank. Yet that is the reality for most small business owners.
The administrative and financial side of business is necessary, but it is not your strength. It is not where you add the most value. And honestly, it is probably not what you enjoy.
This creates a painful dilemma: either you neglect the financial side (which creates problems down the road) or you spend valuable time on tasks that someone else could do better and faster. Neither option is ideal.
That is where we come in.
Our Approach: Personalized Service That Fits Your Business
There is sound financial advice, and then there is real-life advice. I try to find a balance between the two.
Rather than recycling the same strategies for every business, I take the time to understand your goals, your challenges, and how you actually work, so the guidance fits you, not the other way around.
This personalized approach means:
- We learn your business deeply. I do not just process transactions. I understand what you do, how you operate, and what success looks like for you specifically.
- We adapt to your systems. If you use QuickBooks Desktop, we use QuickBooks Desktop. If you prefer Sage or Xero, we work with that. We meet you where you are rather than forcing you to change systems that work.
- We communicate in plain language. No jargon. No making you feel stupid for not knowing financial concepts. Just clear, straightforward explanations.
- We adjust as you grow. Your needs in year one are different from year five. We scale our services up or down as your business evolves.
- We focus on what you actually need. Not every business needs every service. We help you identify where support would make the biggest difference and start there.
This is not cookie-cutter bookkeeping. This is a partnership built on understanding your unique situation.

Celebrating When Clients Outgrow Us
Nothing feels better than when clients outgrow my firm and move on to having their own accounting staff. That is real success, and I celebrate every one of those milestones.
I am not trying to keep clients dependent on me forever. My goal is to support you through your growth journey until you reach the point where having in-house financial staff makes sense for your business. When that day comes, I am genuinely thrilled for you.
This has happened dozens of times. A business starts as a one-person operation where the owner does everything. We provide bookkeeping and admin support so they can focus on generating revenue. They grow to 5 employees, then 10, then 20. Eventually, they reach a scale where a full-time bookkeeper makes financial sense.
When they make that transition, I help them find the right person, train their new staff member, ensure systems are transferred smoothly, and send them off with genuine congratulations.
That is what success looks like. And it proves that our approach works.
The Emotional Component Nobody Talks About
There is an emotional component not often considered when it comes to business finances. Problems relating to cash flow, staffing, or a downturn in revenue can be very distressing for business owners.
I have seen clients lose sleep over financial stress. I have watched business owners feel paralyzed by bookkeeping backlogs. I have sat with entrepreneurs who feel like failures because they do not understand their financial statements.
Something simple like dropping by and chatting regularly with my clients helps me understand what issues they are facing, what is blocking them from success, and how I can help them work through it.
While we still process all those financial transactions, it is not what we are about. We want to give all our clients a personal experience.
Whether we talk about the weather or the latest trend in marketing, I want to sit and listen. I get the chance to learn, and the client has a listening ear.
This is why I thoroughly enjoy visiting my clients regularly, celebrating their successes, or listening to them vent their frustrations. I found a fulfilling career, and my hope for everyone is that they find that job that helps them bounce out of bed in the morning.
Our Core Values
After a decade of serving Fraser Valley businesses, our values have become crystal clear:
- Personal Connection
We are not a faceless corporation or an overseas call center. We are local, we are accessible, and we know the Chilliwack and Fraser Valley business community personally. - Accessibility
I still pride myself on always answering the phone, taking the time to focus on each client’s needs, and ensuring their information is available to them on a timely basis. You are never wondering if you can reach me. - Real-World Solutions
We provide advice that works in reality, not just in theory. Sound financial principles balanced with practical business realities. - Genuine Care
We invest in client success. Your wins are our wins. Your stress becomes our mission to solve. This is not transactional; it is relational. - Flexibility
We adjust to your needs rather than forcing you into our systems. Every business is different, and our approach reflects that. - Growth Mindset
We celebrate when clients outgrow us. Our goal is your success, not dependency.
Who We Work Best With
SBSC Ventures is ideal for Fraser Valley business owners who:
- Value their time highly. You recognize that hours spent on bookkeeping and admin are hours not spent on revenue-generating activities.
- Want personalized service. You are tired of feeling like just an account number. You want someone who knows your business and cares about your success.
- Are ready to delegate. You have accepted that you cannot (and should not) do everything yourself. You are looking for trusted help.
- Prefer local support. You like the idea of working with someone in your community who understands the Fraser Valley business environment.
- Need flexibility. Your business is dynamic, and you want services that adjust as your needs change.
- Appreciate communication. You want a bookkeeper who explains things clearly, responds promptly, and keeps you informed.
If that sounds like you, we should talk.
How We Are Different
I could list credentials and certifications. I have over 30 years of experience in bookkeeping and credit management. I hold a CCP Designation (Certified Credit Professional). I am well versed in the one-write system and paper long-form tax returns. I still run through T accounts on the ole legal pad when I am stuck on an entry.
But honestly, credentials are not what clients care about most.
What makes SBSC Ventures different is this: we genuinely care about helping entrepreneurs find the joy in their business.
Too many business owners are stressed, overwhelmed, and drowning in tasks that someone else could handle better. We exist to change that.
When a client tells me they finally understand their finances, or they got their weekends back, or they were able to hire their first employee because they had time to focus on growth—that is why I do this work.
Owning my own firm has been a dream come true, both career-wise and lifestyle-wise. And I want the same for you.
